How to Walk in High Heels

Some women think that high heels are for special occasions only, like going to a ball or for a fancy dinner. Yes, heels are suitable then, but have a little bit of imagination! You can wear heels whenever you please, and once you know how to wear them, you will probably be very keen on wearing them more often!

Key factors to consider when selecting a heel for the evening:
1) The weather forcast. Rain will ruin suede, satin & your evening.
2) Transportation. Do you drive? Catch taxis? If you walk three miles every day, a stiletto is probably not your best choice.
3) Potential hazards. Rain, ice, slippery marble floors, uneven surfaces, deep smooshy carpet, gravel, or cobblestone.
4) Wear something sane!! There are shoes that are appropriate for answering the door, kissing & walking (or being carried) to the bedroom.
5) If your going to be dancing all night and four inch heels aren’t going to do it, try a wedge or something with a strap for more support.

How to buy a pair of heels:
1) If you’re going out for a day of shopping, do the shoes at the end of the day, after hours of walking around. This is when your feet will be swollen & believe me, you want your shoes to fit at this crucial time.
2) When you try on the shoes, walk around in them for a good length of time. If you find them to be a bit stiff, keep in mind they will soften.
3) If your toes touch the end of the shoe, and your heel slides out of the back when you walk, they are not the right size.
4) Make sure your shoe is wide enough!

If you don’t know how to wear heels, or have only recently become interested in making the transition from running shoes to pumps, go easy on yourself. You are to be commended for trying something new! Hooray!!! Once you get used to them, you will be like me and slowly build up your collection of hot stilettos!!

How to walk in high heels:
1) Take shorter steps, and walk in a heel-toe motion.
2) Try to distribute most of the weight across the ball of your foot.
3) Stand up straight- you will feel a little unbalanced, but you’re not. The heel will support you.
4) Keep your legs together as you walk and try to bend them more than you normally would.
5) Finally, PRACTICE!!!! The more you work at it, the better you’ll be.
