HEIGHT OF FASHION: THE HEEL

High heels are a paradox, ‘wrote Rona Berg in Vogue. They can make a woman appear more – or less – powerful.”

When worn for long periods of time, they are a devilish prescription for pain, responsible for everything from hammertoes to fallen arches. But when worn for effect, like Cinderella’s slippers, they can work magic and bestow the power to seduce.

Women may ‘wear’ slippers, ‘put on’ sneakers and ‘slip into’ loafers, but they ‘dress’ in high heels. They playact. Psychologically, high heels permit them to lead rather than follow. An ordinary woman becomes a towering seductress, literally staring men down. Sexually, whether she acknowledges it or not, she can choose to become the subject or the object of male worship.

Always teetering in and out of style, heels reached new heights with the advent of the stiletto in the 1950s. And to the dismay of many women, spindly high heels popped up again in fashion magazines in the 1990s. Still, whether a woman thinks heels are the height of fashion or the height of absurdity, she usually has at least one pair in the back of her closet for the occasion when sensible shoes just won’t do.

Blue Suede Shoes

Well it’s one for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready now go cat go

But don’t you, step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

You can knock me down, step on my face
Slam my name all over the place
Do anything that you’re going to do
But uh uh honey lay off of my shoes

But don’t you, step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

Well it’s blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Well you can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

You can knock me down, step on my face
Slam my name all over the place
Do anything that you’re going to do
But uh uh honey lay off of my shoes

But don’t you, step on my blue suede shoes
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

Well it’s blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes

Well you can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

How to Walk in High Heels

Some women think that high heels are for special occasions only, like going to a ball or for a fancy dinner. Yes, heels are suitable then, but have a little bit of imagination! You can wear heels whenever you please, and once you know how to wear them, you will probably be very keen on wearing them more often!

Key factors to consider when selecting a heel for the evening:
1) The weather forcast. Rain will ruin suede, satin & your evening.
2) Transportation. Do you drive? Catch taxis? If you walk three miles every day, a stiletto is probably not your best choice.
3) Potential hazards. Rain, ice, slippery marble floors, uneven surfaces, deep smooshy carpet, gravel, or cobblestone.
4) Wear something sane!! There are shoes that are appropriate for answering the door, kissing & walking (or being carried) to the bedroom.
5) If your going to be dancing all night and four inch heels aren’t going to do it, try a wedge or something with a strap for more support.

How to buy a pair of heels:
1) If you’re going out for a day of shopping, do the shoes at the end of the day, after hours of walking around. This is when your feet will be swollen & believe me, you want your shoes to fit at this crucial time.
2) When you try on the shoes, walk around in them for a good length of time. If you find them to be a bit stiff, keep in mind they will soften.
3) If your toes touch the end of the shoe, and your heel slides out of the back when you walk, they are not the right size.
4) Make sure your shoe is wide enough!

If you don’t know how to wear heels, or have only recently become interested in making the transition from running shoes to pumps, go easy on yourself. You are to be commended for trying something new! Hooray!!! Once you get used to them, you will be like me and slowly build up your collection of hot stilettos!!

How to walk in high heels:
1) Take shorter steps, and walk in a heel-toe motion.
2) Try to distribute most of the weight across the ball of your foot.
3) Stand up straight- you will feel a little unbalanced, but you’re not. The heel will support you.
4) Keep your legs together as you walk and try to bend them more than you normally would.
5) Finally, PRACTICE!!!! The more you work at it, the better you’ll be.

Feel free to visit us at www.brazilianshoebox.com and check out our fun heels; and add some to your collection!!!

Good luck practicing your catwalk!!

We’re noticing a trend this year. As the days go by everything is getting intensely embellished. Mixed patterns, sequins, lace, thick, thin, long, short, up, down, more, more, more.

Fashion is an excellent way to extend your personality to the world. Some would say that there is an opportunity for theatrical extension every single day. You may be an extreme introvert, but can carry off eclectic style that not even the loudest of birds could try. We like that, we respect that, and we support you in taking a garment and turning it into a statement.

Be loud. Be quiet. Be someone else. Be someone. Or Just be you…
